About

David Rogers is the Chief Technology Officer of RentRedi, where he drives innovation and operational excellence across the engineering organization. He is an accomplished technology leader with over 20 years of experience building scalable cloud platforms and mentoring high-growth engineering teams.

The engineering group he leads is deliberately wired to the customer. It includes the technical support team that bridges RentRedi's support organization and its engineers, so reported bugs and quality-of-life requests land with the people who can fix them. His hiring is public and specific: JavaScript engineers working in Node.js, React, Google Cloud, and Firebase Realtime Database.

Outside the org chart he is a teacher. He publishes as "AL the X," runs Just Enough Academy, a series of one-day seminars that teach a specific technology through project-oriented group work, keeps an open archive of his talks on GitHub, and wrote The Philosophy Behind Engineering. He also co-wrote the lyrics to the "Shaping Up with AngularJS" song that lodged itself in a generation of developers' heads in 2015.

He lives on a North Carolina hobby farm with his wife, many children, and even more barnyard animals.

What David is known for

The Internet
His own stated education, per al-the-x.me
The technology behind property management software should ultimately serve the people using it. That means building a platform that can scale with landlords' businesses while staying reliable, responsive, and connected to the needs we hear from customers every day. After more than 20 years building cloud platforms and engineering teams, I have learned that strong technology is not just about what you build. It is about how well it supports the people who depend on it.
